Privacy policy
Last updated: 30 October 2026
This policy explains what Kise · ኪሴ collects, why, and the choices you have. Kise is made by Laliora Gaming in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia ("we"). Questions: support@laliora.com.
Our promise: your SMS never leave your phone
If you allow Kise to read bank and wallet SMS, those messages are read and checked only on your phone. No SMS text, sender, amount, balance or any detail taken from a message is ever sent to our servers or to anyone else, including in crash reports. This is enforced in the app's code and tested.
Your money records stay on your phone
Transactions, balances, budgets, goals, shop credit, ekub and all other money records are stored only on your phone, encrypted (AES-256-GCM, with the key in the Android Keystore). We can't see them.
Backups and exports you make are files you choose where to save. By default they contain no SMS details. An encrypted backup can include SMS details only if you switch that on for that backup and confirm a warning. Plain exports and statements never include them.
What we do collect
- A random app ID, created when you first open Kise. It isn't your phone's hardware ID and isn't linked to your name or phone number.
- Anonymous usage events, such as screens opened and whether a transaction was added (never the amount, merchant, note or account). You can turn these off in More → Settings → Privacy & security → Share anonymous usage data.
- Crash reports, with the app version, device model and Android version, cleaned so they contain no amounts, names, SMS text or other personal text. They're deleted after 30 days. The same switch turns them off.
- Your device's advertising ID, collected by Google AdMob to show and measure ads (see Advertising).
We don't collect your SMS, money data, contacts, location, photos, phone number or email address. Receipt photos you take stay on your phone.
Permissions
- SMS (read and receive): only to read bank and wallet messages on your phone, as described above. Kise works without it; you can add transactions by hand.
- Display over other apps: to show the "What was this for?" prompt after a payment SMS. Optional.
- Camera: only when you take a receipt photo.
- Notifications: reminders you turn on. On a locked screen they never show amounts or merchants.
- Fingerprint or face unlock: only for the optional app lock; Android keeps your biometric data, Kise never sees it.
- Internet and network state: for ads and the anonymous usage events and crash reports. Never for SMS or money data.
- Advertising ID: used by Google AdMob (see Advertising).
- Foreground service, start at boot, vibrate and wake lock: to show payment prompts and reminders on time.
Kise doesn't ask for your location, contacts or files.
Advertising
Kise is free because it shows ads from Google AdMob. Ads never appear on SMS, lock or onboarding screens: a banner shows only on the main tabs, a full-screen ad only after you leave a report screen, and a video ad only when you choose to watch one (to unlock premium looks). Google may collect your device's advertising ID, an approximate location based on your IP address, and information about the ads you see, to show and measure ads. Where the law requires it, Kise asks for your consent first, and you can change it in More → Settings → Privacy & security → Ad privacy choices (shown where required). You can also reset your advertising ID or opt out of personalised ads in your phone's Android settings.
Read how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
Who we share with
Only Google AdMob (for ads) and our hosting provider (which stores the anonymous events and crash reports). We don't sell or rent data.
Deleting your data
Your money records are on your phone: delete them in the app (More → Settings → Privacy & security → Delete all data) or by uninstalling. For the anonymous events and crash reports on our servers, use the data deletion page or email us; we delete them within 30 days.
Children
Kise is for people aged 13 and over. It isn't directed at children.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top, and tell you in the app for important changes.
